National Geographic tour guide and Cuba travel expert Christopher Bakerwrites “It’s been a dream of mine to lead group motorcycle tours of Cuba ever since I published my travel literary memoir, Mi Moto Fidel: Motorcycling Through Castro’s Cuba.”
In March, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) granted a “people-to-people” license to MotoDiscovery that allows the Texas-based company to offer “educational exchange programs” in Cuba.
This is the only company to have a license to offer motorcycle tours in Cuba.
Mr. Baker is happy to announce that he will be leading several of the motorcycle tours of Cuba that are being planned for the winter travel season.
The itineraries feature encounters with the Cuban people from tobacco farmers to practitioners of santería (the Afro-Cuban religion) to self employed cuentapropistas.
He anticipates offering a fleet of BMW F800 motorcycles.
In 1996, Mr. Baker rode more than 7,000 miles in Cuba from Cabo San Antonio in the west to Punta Maisí in the east while researching the first edition of my Moon Cuba.
Now he’ll be putting that expertise, and the expertise that he has accrued in the ensuing 15 years, to make these programs as exciting and fulfilling as possible for all participants.
