Mail Service Resumes

U.S. mail service to Cuba resumes

Days before Monday’s groundbreaking trip to Cuba by President Obama and Michelle Obama, mail service has  resumed between the U.S. and the island nation.
Now they will be able to send a postcard home.
“The U.S. Postal Service is pleased to participate in the historic direct transportation of mail service with Cuba,” said Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan. “Moving letter mail and package volume directly between our countries will improve service for businesses and consumers.”
Wednesday was the first time mail traveled directly between the two countries in more than 50 years. If follows Obama’s decision to resume diplomatic relations with Cuba, which were cut in 1961.
Previously, mail was delivered between the two nations, but it went through third countries.

USPS said the kinds of mail that can be sent to Cuba includes postcards, letters, first-class and priority mail packages. More details are at this link.
