New Options of Agro-tourism in Western Cuba


Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The expansion of tourism offers related to tobacco with visits to the meadows of Vueltabajo and meetings with growers, stands out among the sector's prospects in this Cuban province.

The idea is to promote tours around emblematic farms and the offer of accommodation in farmhouses as a new variant of agro-tourism.

This is an initiative for 2012, the starting point of an ambitious program.

The design includes a reception and information area as a preamble to the itinerary, Otto Medero, marketing manager of the Provincial Delegation of Tourism told Prensa Latina.

The territory boosts investments to improve comfort in the main tourist resorts and increase capacity in some places.

In Cayo Levisa, island of unspoiled beaches, some 60 new rooms will be build, said Medero.

One of the favorite places is the International Center Maria La Gorda, ideal for contemplative diving due to the presence of black corals and other species, abundant at this point in the peninsula of Guanahacabibes, Biosphere Reserve.

Pinar del Rio has received this year about 194, 000 foreign tourists, this represents

75, 000 visitors over the same period last year, he said.

As major markets are Germany, United Kingdom, France, Holland and Italy, followed by Belgium, Norway, and Austria.

  1. This will be a great opportunity for Cuba to boost it's tourism industry. There are lot of places in Cuba that have the potential to be great tourist spots.
